Follow Me, And I Will Make You Fishers of Men
The purposes of this prayer are: Obedience, Guidance/Purpose and Spreading of the Gospel.
God Most High, after Jesus was tempted by the devil in the desert, he returned to the area of Galilee and began his ministry in Capernaum. Matthew recorded that “while walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.” Matthew 4:18–22 (ESV). Lord, your call to follow you may not be as overwhelmingly obvious to contemporary recipients of the Word as it was for Peter, Andrew, James and John, but it is certainly no less sincere, beneficial and life-changing. How fortunate we followers of Christ are today to receive the gift of faith that leads to life eternal. May we be as obedient as the first followers of Jesus were. Amen.
