I Passed by the Field of One Who Was Lazy
The purposes of this prayer are: Guidance/Purpose, Wisdom and Sustenance.
Heavenly Father, you have created a beautiful and bountiful world for your creatures to live in and take stewardship over. The wise man is cognizant of his inheritance and does his best to cultivate his resources while living sustainably to ensure that he leaves resources for future generations. The proverb writer may have been thinking along these lines when he wrote, “I passed by the field of one who was lazy, by the vineyard of a stupid person; and see, it was all overgrown with thorns; the ground was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down. Then I saw and considered it; I looked and received instruction. A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want, like an armed warrior.” Proverbs 24:30–34 (NRSV). Lord, we pray that we remain diligent in acquiring our sustenance, shelter and other things that we need. Thank you for all that you have given us, Lord, that make this possible. Amen.
