I Will Dwell Among the Israelites

The purposes of this prayer are: Obedience, Guidance/Purpose and Salvation.

Lord of Hosts, while the temple where the Israelites were to worship you was being built in Jerusalem, you appeared to Solomon and confirmed the covenant that you made with his father, David: “The word of the Lord came to Solomon: ‘As for this temple you are building- if you walk in my statutes, observe my ordinances, and keep all my commands by walking in them, I will fulfill my promise to you, which I made to your father David. I will dwell among the Israelites and not abandon my people Israel.’” 1 Kings 6:11–13 (CSB). Gracious Lord, Christians understand that under your new covenant of salvation, Jesus is our temple where we are to worship you. Jesus referred to himself as such when he responded to the Jews who questioned his actions during his cleansing of the temple: “So the Jews replied to him, ‘What sign will you show us for doing these things?’ Jesus answered, ‘Destroy this temple, and I will raise it up in three days.’ Therefore, the Jews said, ‘This temple took forty-six years to build, and will you raise it up in three days?’ But he was speaking about the temple of his body.” John 2:18–21 (CSB). Heavenly Father, help us as we strive to remain in your will. We ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
