Who Knows? God May Turn and Relent

The purposes of this prayer are: Repentance, Mercy and Forgiveness.

God of Justice, you are holy and righteous and cannot tolerate wickedness. Yet, you are also loving, merciful and slow to anger. When Jonah prophesied to the Ninevites of their coming destruction, the king of Nineveh repented and issued a proclamation instructing everyone to debase themselves and to “’call out mightily to God. Let everyone turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands. Who knows? God may turn and relent and turn from his fierce anger, so that we may not perish.’ When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it.” Jonah 3:8–10 (ESV). Merciful Lord, we pray that you forgive our sins. Amen.
