We are the Clay

The purposes of this prayer are: Mercy and Forgiveness.

Merciful Father, when we are wallowing in our sins, like pigs in mud, we are filled with despair and wonder how you could ever forgive us. As Isaiah recorded the Israelites pleading to God: “Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter, we are all the work of your hand. Do not be angry beyond measure, O Lord, do not remember our sins forever. Oh, look upon us, we pray, for we are all your people.” Isaiah 64:8–9 (NIV). We plead like Jeremiah did in Lamentations: “Restore us to yourself, O Lord, that we may be restored; renew our days as of old- unless you have utterly rejected us, and are angry with us beyond measure.” Lamentations 5:21–22 (NRSV). Merciful Lord, thank you for reconciling us to yourself through Jesus. Amen.
