121 Days of Prayer

The purposes of this prayer are: Obedience, Intercession, Holiness/Righteousness.

Holy God, after the death of King Solomon, the monarchy split into two, with the ten northern tribes becoming Israel and the two southern tribes becoming Judah. You sent your prophet Elijah to prophesy against evil King Ahab, who led Israel into idolatry. In a miraculous show of your strength, you instructed Elijah to challenge Ahab’s 850 prophets of Baal and Asherah to a contest. Before your miraculous victory was displayed, Elijah prayed, “O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, today let it be known that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and I have done all these things at your word. Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their heart back again.” 1 Kings 18:36–37 (NASB). After Elijah’s prayer ended, you answered his prayer with an awe-inspiring display of lightning flashing down from heaven which immediately and decisively concluded the contest. All the Israelites then recognized how evil they had become and “fell on their faces; and they said, ‘The Lord, he is God; the Lord, he is God.” 1 Kings 18:39 (NASB). Lord, you are so holy that we could not even approach you without the intercessory grace we receive from our Lord and Savior, Jesus. We pray that you help us to remain obedient to the commandments of Jesus so that we may continue to receive your blessing of salvation. Amen.
