The purposes of this prayer are: Holiness/Righteousness, Obedience and Justice.

Holy Lord, you demonstrated to Aaron and his sons the critical importance of strict obedience to your statutes. Just after the assembled Israelites offered a burnt sacrifice to you at the tent of meeting, “Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censors, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, contrary to his command. So fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord. Moses then said to Aaron, ‘This is what the Lord spoke of when he said: ‘Among those who approach me I will show myself holy; in the sight of all the people I will be honored.’’ Aaron remained silent.” Leviticus 10:1–3 (NIV). Lord, let us never forget how holy you are. You are not our “big buddy upstairs.” You are the creator and sustainer of the universe. Help us to maintain a reverential fear of you always. Your holiness elicits praise from us. Thank you, Father, for all the blessings you have given us. Amen.
