121 Days of Prayer
He That Hath a Bountiful Eye Shall Be Blessed
The purposes of this prayer are: Mercy, Wisdom, Friendship/Fellowship and Humility.
Gracious Lord, the book of Proverbs has much to say about being generous, loving and merciful toward one’s neighbor, including these gems: “Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard,” and, “He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor,” and also, “He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.” Proverbs 21:13, 22:9,16 (KJV). The proverb recorder also observed that the rich and the poor have a lot in common: “The rich and the poor have a common bond, the Lord is the maker of them all.” Proverbs 22:2 (NASB). Jesus said that we will always have the poor with us and taught his disciples to be radically generous (“Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.” Luke 6:30, NASB). Lord, let us always feel compelled to be generous to all who are in need. Amen.
