The purposes of this prayer are: Salvation, Mercy, Ability/Success and Obedience.

Compassionate God, King David composed a hymn of praise in which he credited you for saving his life many times, writing, “He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me; for they were too mighty for me. They came upon me in the day of my calamity, but the Lord was my stay. He brought me out into a broad place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me. The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he recompensed me. For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.” 2 Samuel 22:18–22 (NRSV). Lord, we pray that at the end of our lives, we can say that we also have not wickedly departed from our God. It is through our devotion to Jesus and his commandments that we experience success in our endeavors in this life and eternal rest with Jesus in the life to come. Amen.
