Those Who Are Spiritual Can Evaluate All Things

The purposes of this prayer are: Wisdom and Illumination.

Heavenly Father, in his first letter to them, Paul reminded the Corinthians that when he preached the gospel to them, he did not try to dazzle them with clever and persuasive arguments, but instead relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit (verse 2:4), and then he explained to them, “But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For ‘Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?’ But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:14–16 (NLT). Gracious Lord, we are grateful for the spiritual understanding we receive from reading your Word, the Bible. How could we understand the salvation that we receive from our faith in your Son, Jesus, if it were not for the illumination we receive from the Holy Spirit, the mind of Christ? Praise God! Amen.
