The Tender Mercy of Our God

The purposes of this prayer are: Mercy, Salvation and Forgiveness.

Merciful Lord, when John the Baptist was born, his father Zechariah, a priest in the temple in Jerusalem, prophesied over his son, saying, “And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the most high; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.” Luke 1:76–79 (NIV). Lord, when John was an adult, you sent your word to him to begin his baptism of forgiveness and repentance (Luke 3:2). He baptized with water and told his followers about the one who would come after him who would baptize them with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Jesus came after John and preached the good news of the Kingdom of God coming near. All who accept Jesus achieve forgiveness and eternal salvation. Thank you, God, for your mercy to us sinners. Amen.
