The purposes of this prayer are: Resist Temptation, Illumination and Holiness/Righteousness.

Beneficent God, Luke recorded the parable of the lamp hidden beneath a basket and the diseased eye that cannot perceive the light. Jesus taught his followers that he is the light of the world and that, in order to perceive his light, or understand and accept his message, one must strive to discern and overcome his evil thoughts and inclinations which are barriers to receiving his light: “No one lights a lamp and then puts it in a cellar or under a basket; rather, he places it upon a lampstand so that people may see the light when they come in. Your eyes are the lamp of your body. If your eyes are sound, your whole body will be filled with light. However, if your eyes are diseased, your whole body will be in darkness. See to it then that the light inside you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, it will be as full of light as when a lamp illuminates you with its rays.” Luke 11:33–36 (NCB). Heavenly Father, we pray that you would help us to reject and dispel all evil thoughts and evil inclinations that are impediments to receiving the commandments and the will of Jesus. We want to ensure that the light inside ourselves is not darkness. Amen.
