121 Days of Prayer
On This Day Shall Atonement Be Made For You
The purposes of this prayer are: Holiness/Righteousness and Forgiveness.
Holy God, Jesus is the substitutionary sacrifice of atonement for our sins under the New Covenant inaugurated by his birth, sinless life and death on the cross. Under the Old Covenant, you prescribed an annual day of atonement for the sons of the Israelites: “It shall be a statute to you forever that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict yourselves and shall do no work, either the native or the stranger who sojourns among you. For on this day shall atonement be made for you to cleanse you. You shall be clean before the Lord from all your sins. It is a Sabbath of solemn rest to you, and you shall afflict yourselves; it is a statute forever.” Leviticus 16:29–31 (ESV). Lord, we must confess our sins to Jesus as soon as we recognize that we have sinned, and we know we will be forgiven, as long as we sincerely repent. Thank you, Jesus! Amen.
