Do Not Be Mismatched With Unbelievers
The purposes of this prayer are: Holiness/Righteousness, Guidance/Purpose and Obedience.
Holy Father, Paul may have had a passage from Deuteronomy in mind (“You shall not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed, or all the produce of the seed which you have sown and the increase of the vineyard will become defiled. You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together. You shall not wear a material mixed of wool and linen together.” Deuteronomy 22:9–11, NASB) when he urged the Corinthians to avoid and reject the cultural influences of the city in which they lived, writing: “Do not be mismatched with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? What agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? And what agreement does God’s sanctuary have with idols? For we are the sanctuary of the living God, as God said: ‘I will dwell among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people. Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord; do not touch any unclean thing, and I will welcome you. I will be a father to you, and you will be sons and daughters to me,’ says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:14–18 (HCSB). Lord, we, the believers and disciples of Christ, are the sanctuary of the only true God. Help us to remain obedient to your will and to reject all the evil cultural influences that bombard us. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
