121 Days of Prayer
Blessed are the Peacemakers
The purposes of this prayer are: World Peace, Reconciliation and Wisdom.
Loving God, one of the Beatitudes that Jesus discussed during his Sermon on the Mount is about peacemakers: “Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.” Matthew 5:9 (NRSV). Peacemakers are highly regarded in the Old Testament as well, as shown in this Proverb: “Deceit is in the mind of those who plan evil, but those who counsel peace have joy.” Proverbs 12:20 (NRSV). Several psalms extol peace, including, “Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.” Psalm 34:14 (NRSV), and, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, and security within your towers.’ For the sake of my relatives and friends I will say, ‘Peace be within you.’ For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good.” Psalm 122:6–9 (NRSV). Gracious Lord, help us all to be peacemakers. We all want to be called children of God. Let each one of us seek peace, in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, and pursue it. Amen.
