Set Apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the Work to Which I Have Called Them
The purposes of this prayer are: Guidance/Purpose, Obedience and Spreading of the Gospel.
Holy God, after Saul and Barnabas returned to Antioch from Jerusalem with John Mark, you sent them off on their first missionary trip to spread the Good News of Jesus: “Now there were in the church in Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon, who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’ Then after fasting and praying they laid their hand on them and sent them off. So, being sent out by the Holy Spirt, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.” Acts 13:1–4 (ESV). Gracious Lord, we pray that we do not fail to heed the promptings and guidance we receive from the Holy Spirit in our lives. Our foremost desire is to fulfill your purposes for our lives and to obey your commandments. Amen.
