121 Days of Prayer
I Will Be His Father, and He Will Be My Son
The purposes of this prayer are: Lovingkindness, Guidance/Purpose and Ability/Success.
Sovereign God, after David was made king over all Israel and after you had given him rest from his enemies, he decided that he wanted to build a house for the Ark of God (verse 2). You told David that he was not the right person to build your house, but instead his son would build it: “He is the one who will build a house- a temple- for my name. And I will secure his royal throne forever. I will be his Father and he will be my son. If he sins, I will correct him and discipline him with the rod, like any father would do. But my favor will not be taken from him as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from your sight. Your house and your kingdom will continue before me for all time, and your throne will be secure forever.” 2 Samuel 7:13–16 (NLT). It was Solomon, David’s son, who built the temple. Lord, it is Jesus, your Son, a descendant of David, that now reigns over your kingdom for all time. All who place their faith in Jesus and in his everlasting kingship have achieved eternal salvation. Thanks be to God. Amen.
