Abraham is to Become a Great and Powerful Nation

The purposes of this prayer are: Lovingkindness, Holiness/Righteousness and Illumination.

Omnipotent God, before you rendered judgement on the wickedness of Sodom and Gomorrah, you visited Abraham and reiterated to him that you would bless him with many descendants. You then told Abraham of your intention to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah and graciously allowed him to intercede on their behalf. You said to your heavenly council that accompanied you, “Should I hide what I am about to do from Abraham? Abraham is to become a great and powerful nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed through him. For I have chosen him so that he will command his children and his house after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. This is how the Lord will fulfill to Abraham what he promised to him.” Genesis 18:17–19 (CSB). You knew, of course, Lord, because you know all things, that Abraham would keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that he and his descendants would receive the blessings that you promised to him. All Christians are spiritual descendants of Abraham and are therefore eligible to receive all the blessings that you continue to provide to Abraham’s descendants. Thank you, Heavenly Father, for your generous love and blessings. Amen.
