And He Did Evil, For He Did Not Set His Heart to Seek the Lord
The purposes of this prayer are: Leadership, Justice, Holiness/Righteousness and Humility.
Omniscient Lord, the chronicler highlighted the cause and effect relationship between good and evil leadership and the consequences of such leadership on the Israelites in his summation of King Rehoboam’s reign, when he wrote, “And when he humbled himself the wrath of the Lord turned from him, so as not to make a complete destruction. Moreover, conditions were good in Judah. So King Rehoboam grew strong in Jerusalem and reigned. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city that the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother’s name was Naamah, the Ammonite. And he did evil, for he did not set his heart to seek the Lord.” 2 Chronicles 12:12–14 (ESV). Lord, help us to humble ourselves, we pray, and to seek your will for your lives. Let your justice prevail through us. Amen.
