Blessed Are Those Who Mourn

The purposes of this prayer are: Solace for Grief and Lovingkindness.

Merciful God, during those times that I am overcome with sadness, I turn to you for help. Jesus said, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4 (NRSV). The prophet Isaiah said of the coming Messiah, “He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn and to provide for those who grieve in Zion- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes.” Isaiah 61:3 (NIV). Lord, please heal my broken heart. Amen.
